Academic Events, Get Involved !

Research at WUST doesn't happen behind closed doors, and it was never meant to.

Whether you're a first-year student curious about AI or a graduate researcher ready to publish, there's a place for you in WUST's growing research community.

Why Get Involved?

Research participation isn't reserved for faculty, at WUST, students are active contributors to the scholarship happening on this campus. Here's what getting involved means for you:

Build a stronger academic and professional profile. Conference participation, co-authored publications, and research grants are the kind of credentials that distinguish a candidate. Getting involved early gives you a head start.

Connect with researchers and professionals across the globe. WUST has hosted international conferences that brought together researchers, academics, industry leaders, and students from multiple continents, the kind of network that opens doors long after graduation.

Put your coursework into practice. There is no substitute for working on a real research problem. WUST's mission is to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice by facilitating cutting-edge research, collaboration, and innovation, and student involvement is central to that mission.

Ways to Get Involved

You don't have to wait to be invited. Below are concrete roles students take on within WUST's research and events ecosystem. Find the one that fits where you are right now.

Paper Co-Author Work directly with a WUST faculty member to develop and submit original research to IEEE or SCRS-affiliated conferences. Co-authoring a peer-reviewed paper is one of the most impactful additions to any academic portfolio, and faculty members actively welcome motivated student collaborators.

Student Presenter Have research of your own, even early-stage work? WUST encourages students to present at internal research showcases and external conferences. Presenting sharpens your thinking, builds your public speaking skills, and puts your work in front of an audience that matters.

Session Volunteer Behind every successful conference is a team managing the details. Volunteering at events like IEEE i-COSTE gives you an insider's view of how international academic conferences are organized, and puts you in the same room as the scholars shaping your field.

Hackathon Participant The SCRS US Center at WUST organizes academic events including conferences, hackathons, workshops, and seminars to disseminate knowledge, including challenges focused on AI, machine learning, and sustainability. These events are time-bound, team-driven, and designed for students who want to solve real problems fast.

SCRS Student Chapter Member WUST's partnership with the Soft Computing Research Society supports the establishment of SCRS student chapters to engage young researchers and students. As a chapter member, you help bring lectures, seminars, and workshops directly to campus, and gain access to a global network of researchers in the process.

Not Sure Where to Start?

That's perfectly fine, most students begin exactly there. Reach out to the WUST Research Office and someone will help point you toward the right opportunity for your background, program, and goals.
